Christmas with a twist

Getting the festive celebrations off to a start this week FDL travelled to the London food festival Taste of Christmas. The event aims to bring together some of the top chefs and restaurants in the capital to present food with a seasonal feel.

We took this as a good time to go in search of some Christmas dinner tips with a twist and with Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall both opening the festival there was no shortage of big chefs to ask. So whether it's how to cook a goose or how to make brussel sprouts taste amazing FDL brought you some great tips, from some of the world's best chefs.

There was also a round up of some of the best food producers at the event, some turkey cooking tips from the king of the turkey, Paul Kelly and a mouthwatering picture gallery of some of the tastiest Christmas food we've ever seen at FDL HQ.

Glass Class

Over the course of 2011 FDL have been bringing you regular video tutorials with the world famous sommelier, Andreas Larsson. In these videos the Swedish wine master has covered a number of topics. From the things you should never do with wine to even offering some tricks on how to bluff your way through a wine tasting.

This week Larsson was back at FDL HQ and this time he offered his advice on how to properly store and transport wine. The video was a great resource for anyone who is series about keeping their wine collection in optimum conditions.

There was also a short biography of the sommelier, some food and wine pairing suggestions and the five golden rules for storing wine correctly.

An interview with Pinar Yolaçan

This week FDL were lucky enough to have an interview with artist and photographer Pinar Yolaçan and a look at her latest work the Maria Project. Provocative, startling and often leaving the viewer feeling a little uneasy. Her use of models sporting blank expressions and wearing raw meat as clothing is what makes this Turkish artist stand out.

Described by many as the new Diane Arbus her work is gaining a lot of attention so FDL decided to meet with Pinar to find out more about her. There was a very FDL QnA as she explained some of her food inspiration and the what flavors she loves most, a biography for those wanting to know more about her history and a further look at the Maria project involving 22 female portraits of women between the ages of 27 and 90.

This was a fascinating insight into the artist but the stand out feature of the piece was inevitably the photo-gallery featuring a selection of her strongest images - but beware we must warn you they're not for the faint the hearted.

Also this week

FDL were in Paris for a city tasting tour - bringing you some of the best bars, restaurants and markets to visit when in the French capital.
