A dress made of eggs, a sculpture made of salt, Elena Arzak is named the world's best female chef and the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic

Food Fashion

We've looked a lot at FDL of the colliding worlds of food and fashion and have noticed more and more that designers from both fashion and food are borrowing inspiration from each other. This week we met with the South Korean artist, Yeonju Sung (in the picture above) who makes completely edible dresses including a bubble grum skirt and even a fried egg halter dress. There was a look at here latest exhibition which is in Milan until April the 20th and an amazing collection of pictures from her work. Truly tasty fashion.

Titanic 100th Anniversary 

This week marked the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and we decided to mark the occasion by looking at the ship from a number of food angles. We looked at the Titanic's last menu, some replica titanic plates from the same company who produced the Titanic's original china, a menu from the world famous chef Heston Blumenthal and the mystery of the women in Canada who believes she possesses a bottle of wine from the Titanic's last voyage.

Green Kitchen

We like restaurants that are a little different at FDL and especially restaurants who have a cause, philosophy or stance that they represent. And this week we were invited to one such restaurant in Chicago.

Uncommon Ground, is a restaurant that takes it's green foot print very seriously and a venue that was recently voted the greenest restaurant in America. The restaurant has it's own roof garden but that's the beginning as they employ hundreds of techniques to make them more eco-friendly and energy efficient. To take spot the restaurant has to 116 criteria, a check list of things we were very interested to see.

In The Blog

We brought you the news that Elena Arzak received the Veuve Clicquot World's Best Female Chef ahead of the World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, on the 30th April. We looked at a chef receiving death threats because of his all Foie Gras menu and we also brought you sculptures made from salt and an expresso machine you text to start your brew.
