With one terrace overlooking the sea on the island of Capri, another plunging you into invigorating luxuriant green countryside in France and yet another with a 180 degree view of vineyards in the Napa Valley, Relais & Châteaux offers you a gateway to happiness. If you enjoy getting off the beaten track, you can head off to the Chilean desert to dine by starlight.
These are all deeply meaningful places as they awaken in us a desire to live for the present: because of the ravishing beauty of the surrounding area of course, and also on account of passionate chefs who strive to create truly mouth-watering dishes. With Relais & Châteaux, a dream terrace and inventive cuisine create a partnership to blow you away!
1. CHATEAU LIFE IN THE OPEN AIR
When you dine on the terrace of Château de la Treyne in France, you are giddy with pleasure. This terrace is tucked away in the midst of the countryside overlooking the Dordogne and boasts spectacular views. If you are looking for fresh, clean air in an extraordinary setting, then this is the place to stay. Dinner on the terrace at the end of the day is a somewhat stylish affair with round tables laid with white cotton and fine china.
Excursions in an exceptional region. The Château de la Treyne, located between the Lot known as a ‘wonderland’ - and the Dordogne - with its more than 1,000 castles, is a supremely romantic place to stay. That little extra? The zen-like outdoor pool with its clean lines.
Gourmets will adore the creative cuisine served by Stéphane Andrieux (1 Michelin star). His langoustine risotto with a custacean jus is a classic dish, as is his Mallemort asparagus salad and his soup with a meringue of truffled hen’s milk.
2. DINNER WITH THE BEST VIEWS ON CAPRI
The Caesar Augustus in Italy sits on a cliff overlooking the sea and offers stunning views of the deep blue sea (in the picture above). Freshly-cut flowers, sophisticated candles and delicious cuisine... everything strikes just the right note: the tune of happiness played on a piano that has to be on the terrace!
Before your meal, take a dip in the infinity pool overlooking the Bay of Naples… a magical moment.
Chef Eduardo Vuolo creates a harmonious Mediterranean cuisine from the vegetables grown in the hotel’s gardens and lemons from Capri. Freshness and flavour are the keynotes here. Mention should also be made of the delicious vegetarian dishes, quite a few of which feature on the menu.
3. TERRACE WITH 180° VIEWS IN THE HEART OF NAPA VALLEY
This is the epitome of relaxed California living. You can enjoy magnifient views of lush green hillsides from the terraces of the Auberge du Soleil, in the United States, which nestles in the heart of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay vines in the Napa Valley.
A variety of different terraces: private in the spacious suites, with brightly-coloured striped table cloths in the open air bistrot and minimalist across from the Auberge restaurant.
Chef Robert Curry serves a cuisine of the sun on his gourmet menu with incredibly well-paired foods and wines. With 15,000 bottles in the cellar, you cannot fail to taste memorable wines to accompany his seasonal cuisine while you watch the sun go down.
4. UNDER A STARLIT SKY IN THE ATACAMA DESERT
This is not really an outdoor terrace, and not exactly an indoor area either… what matters is the idea! To live ‘inside outdoors’ somewhere amazing, Awasi, right in the heart of the Chilean desert. By day, the thatched roofs let through the warm rays of the sun. At nightfall, dine by the light of a wood fire, the stars and candles. Everything has been designed to allow you to soak up the peacefulness of the place: the beauty of the skies outdoors and the comfort of shimmering furniture in every room.
Dinner in a house fashioned out of stone, timber and clay, inspired by an ancient native village.
While you are enjoying the timelessness of this spot, take the opportunity to experiment with some new tastes… The chef will let you try some typical regional ingredients: purple potatoes, quinoa and chañar. That little extra: you are waited on hand and foot so that you can enjoy every moment of your stay to the full.
