All the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 Judges in Asia's 50 Best List
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, announced live from Bangkok on 29th February 2016, saw many of the top chefs and judges taking part in S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 secure top places on the esteemed list.
Taking the title of the best restaurant in Asia was progressive Indian restaurant Gaggan and chef Gaggan Anand for a second consecutive year. Chef Annand will form part of the international top jury responsible for selecting the final winner of S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 at the grand final in Milan, October 2016.
Meanwhile the line-up for the Japan local jury in the regional selection of the local finalist in S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 includes two chefs named in the top five 50 Best Restaurants in Asia. Chef Yoshihiro Narisawa, both judge and mentor for the Japan finalist in this year's competition, of restaurant Narisawa, Tokyo, retained second position for a second consecutive year. Fellow juror Seiji Yamamoto, was awarded fifth place for acclaimed Tokyo restaurant, RyuGin.
The local jury for the North East Asia selection of the regional finalist to compete in S.Pellegrino Young Chef includes three chefs who achieved top spots in Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, namely Umberto Bombana of 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo ranking #13, Chef Yim Jungsik from JungSik, pioneering nouvelle cuisine in Korean food, listed at #22 and Lanshu Chen of restaurant Le Moût, ranking #30 in the list.
In the South East Asia jury for S.Pellegrino Young Chef, Ian Kittichai from Issaya Siamese Club, in Bangkok secured a place at #19 for his modern Thai food. He is joined by fellow chef Alvin Leung renowned for his “X-treme Chinese” cuisine bringing modern Chinese cuisine to Hong Kong with Bo Innovation ranking #41 in Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2016.
