Rodrigo Sandor Wins the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 East Europe Final
Following a tough day long competition up against nine other semi-finalists at the Metro Gastronomy Center (Bucharest) on 7 July, Sandor's signature dish “Mangalica pork cheek with caramelised cauliflower puree, raisins coulis, beetroot tortellini” was enough to outshine his rivals.
A panel of professional chefs formed the jury charged with selecting the winner, namely, Adrian Hadean (Romania), Tomaž Kavčič (Slovenia) and Wojciech Korfel (Poland). The trio were particularly impressed by Sandor's ability to convey a message with his dish as well as the techniques he deployed in the perfect execution of the dish. Their decision was conclusive: this was the right young chef and dish to represent the region at the forthcoming international final.
The young chef will now have time, in the months ahead, to perfect his dish under the guidance of his mentor Adrian Hadean in preparation of the ultimate challenge that lies ahead.
In October Sandor will face off against 19 other regional finalists and present his signature dish to a panel of seven esteemed chefs from around the world who will crown the S.Pellegrino Young chef 2016.
