Tomatoes at the Ready: It's Tomatina 2012 Time

Overly ripe tomatoes lines the streets as the small Spanish town of Bunol gets ready for the annual Tomatina festival.

Held on the last Wednesday of August the festivals see locals and travelers from the world over descend upon Bunol to partake in the tossing of over 100 tones of tomato.

The streets are lined in red and the sweet smell of over tomato sticks to the air. Over 50,000 people are expected to attend this years festivities, all waiting for the sound of an 11am cannon to mark the beginning of what has to be one of the worlds biggest food fights.

Tomatina has been running since 1940 with many people having different theories as to how the festival started.
