Paint the Town Red: It's Tomatina Time 2015

La Tomatina, probably the most famous food fight in the world, is due to descend on the cobbled streets of Buñol next month (26th August 2015.) This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better as Tomatina celebrates its 70th birthday.

Buñol, the small town in Northern Spain which hosts the event, will be overrun by thousands of fun loving food fighters from around the world. Tomatoes will be the only ammunition, squash, aim and fire, the only technique and goggles and gloves the only uniform essentials.

Festivities kick off at around 11am with the first event, namely the inexplicable event of knocking ‘ham’ off a pole. Once the ham falls from the pole the signal is given for the start of the fight with a water shot being fired in the air…in come the loaded tomato trucks with the amunition and ensuing hour of madness.

After exactly one hour the fight ends with the firing of the second shot and the clean up operation begins.

The entrance is ticketed so make sure you pick up a ticket before arriving. And don't forget the one golden rule, always squash your tomato before firing.
