After René Redzepi's Noma in Copenhagen won best restaurant in the world three consecutive years, the Nordic food movement has been in the spotlight. It has allowed chefs like Noma alumn Matthew Orlando and others to launch successful careers.
To celebrate Nordic cusine, Orlando and 18 other chefs from the region will participate in NORTH, the first-ever Nordic Food Festival in New York City to be held October 2-7th.
Participating chefs include Noma co-founder Mads Refslund, Marcus Jenmark from Aquavit, Vesa Parviainen from Mast Brothers, Esben Holmboe-Bang from Maaemo in Oslo and Carl Kristian Frederiksen from Aammans-Copenhagen.
The festival will kick off with an invitation-only Noridc whiskey cocktail followed by a Norweigan seafood dinner at Oceana. The rest of the week is a blend of special dinners at various New York City Nordic restaurants and 30-40 minute cooking classes at the International Culinary Center. The event is sponsored by Honest Cooking magazine.
