Michelin Star Street Food Stall Coming to New York

HK Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle, the world's first Michelin-starred street food stall, is popping-up in New York. See the menu.

New York City’s street food will hit new heights this week when the man behind the world’s first Michelin Star street food stall arrives in New York.

Chan Hon Meng, the chef behind the Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle hawker stall in Singapore, which was awarded a Michelin star earlier in the year and was quickly afforded the title of world’s cheapest Michelin meal, will be cooking in NYC 7 to 9 December at Tiger STREATS, a street food meets fine dining pop-up at Indochine, courtesy of Tiger Beer.

Joining Chan at the stove will be Christopher Kostow of the three Michelin Star The Restaurant at Meadowood in Napa. As well as comparing stars, the two chefs will be cooking a simple menu of Whelk Lasagna with Agretti (Kostow), Chan’s signature Soya Sauce Chicken and Rice (soy-braised chicken), and collaborating on a Coconut Pudding with Tangyuan and Red – rice balls with meringue and sweet red bean.

Dinner at Meadowood typically costs $330 excluding wine, while Chan’s signature dish will set you back around $2. The New York event is part of a world Tiger STREATS tour involving Chan. Find out more and how to make a reservation here. From what we can gather it's free, but you'll have to join a waitlist and reservations are limited to tables of two.

Earlier in the year it was announced that Chan would be extending his operation across Asia, having signed a deal to open a chain of restaurants. Watch a video going inside the original Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle, below.
