Food Through The Ages in London

A new event in London will offer people the chance to dine like past generations with a five course meal made with recipes from different centuries.

Here’s a tasty historical journey thanks to a new exhibition at the Geffrye Museum in Shoreditch, East London, which invites guests to step back in time with a five course meal representing every century from 1600 onwards.

Food Through The Ages will offer people the chance to sample exactly how previous generations used to dine.

Guests will be welcomed into the 18th century buildings surrounded by gardens with a historical drink followed by canapes and a three course meal including: 16th century bites of fried quail egg and bacon on toast, mini spiced pumpkin pies and anchovies, olives and capers. A starter of ‘Salmagundi’ - a 17th-century salad of carved beetroot, cold chicken, anchovies, eggs, pearl onions, green beans, grapes, leaves and flowers. Braised beef shins from the 18th century for main and a dessert of Poire Belle Helene to mark the 20th century.

Each course will be introduced by the historian Kate Colquhon, author of ‘Taste - The Story of Britain Through Its Cooking’, with guests welcomed with a historical drink on arrival.

The dinner will take place on October 16th, tickets costs £50 ($83) and can be purchased by calling the Geffrye Bookings Office on 0207 739 9893.
