A Vegetable Piano? How To Make Edible Instruments

Remember banging on pots and pans as a child? Even back then something inside you knew that a saucepan shouldn’t be limited to just cooking. For that matter, why should vegetables and fruits be just for eating? Why not turn every item in your kitchen a magical instrument?

This isn't such a far-fetched idea. In fact, it is entirely possible thanks to an experimental PCB (printed circuit board) synthesizer created by London-based design studio Dentaku. Originally commissioned and developed with Near Now, the OTOTO synthesizer allows users to create DIY electronic musical equipment with no experience necessary, Design Boom reports.

All you do is connect the PCB synthesizer, which isn’t much bigger than an ordinary cassette tape, to a vegetable, fruit or any other object of your choosing to crocodile clips. Then tap and listen to the sweet sound of music. It's that easy!

An eggplant piano, a pots-and-pans drum set, a pineapple guitar...the possibilities for making edible instruments are endless. Interested in getting your hands on this PCB synthesizer? The invention is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Watch below to see how it works:
