Seaweed is tasty in sushi but does it blend well with lighting? Designer Nir Meiri seems to think so.
Drawing inspiration from the ancient tradition of harvesting seaweed, Meiri designed these lovely seaweed lamps that are part of her Marine Light collection.
Definite eye-stoppers, the lampshades are made when the seaweed is wet. This allows the lamps to be molded before the seaweed dries and shrinks.
Meiri, who is based in Tel-Aviv, will be exhibiting the seaweed lamps at Spazio Rossana Orlando during the 2013 Salone del Mobile design fair to be held in Milan from April 9-14th.
