A leftover soda can, discarded French fry container or a used paper cup hardly get a second glance. These items usually end up as trash or in a recycling bin. Who would think twice about using them?

In the hands of California artist Rohitash Rao this 'trash' becomes food art. Rao creates illustrations and paintings on discarded food containers and items like used cigarette boxes for his line of TRASHart.

In an interview with design blog If It's Hip It's Here, Rao revealed he began making art from trash when he was a kid. But it wasn't until he moved to Venice six months ago that he began doing it professionally. Now, he collects trash everywhere he goes and has gained such a following that fans around the world have begun mailing him trash.

Below you can see a few examples of his amazing TRASHart. To see more his captivating art pieces, check out Rao's Tumblr.
