The World's First Blue Wine has Arrived

Glass of blue? Sounds strange right, but this could soon be the extended drinks choice we are presented with at future parties given the world's first purposely designed 'blue wine’ has arrived.

Yes, that's right, we're not confusing our Blue Nun days or even our blue curacao cocktail days, but the blue brain child of six creatives behind Spanish company Gik, and the cumulative research of two years work.

The result is a vibrant new bottle of wine in the eye catching hue of ... saphire that's sweet and easy drinking at 11.5% vol, with a "unique" flavour.

Whilst the six claim to be nothing of wine vintners, or even connoisseurs, they are all about the fun and intend to "shake things up a little and see what happens." The wine itself makes no claims either of terroir or grape variety, with the grapes being sourced from “no specific region with most of the wineries being located mainly in La Rioja, Zaragoza, León and Castilla-La Mancha.”

Why blue you may ask? Apparantly it’s all about the “movement, innovation, fluidity, change and infinity.”

Blue wine? how natural is it?

The colour comes about thanks to a pigmentation process using a mix of red and white grapes before being added to two organic pigments; indigo and anthocyanin which is found in the skins of the grapes.

Watch this space, how long will it be before you say make mine a blue!
