Artifishal is playing in Patagonia stores and selected theatres this month as part of the brand’s awareness campaign to help safe guard the salmon stocks for future generations.
The film is about people, rivers and the fight for the future of wild fish and the environment that supports them. It explores wild salmon’s slide toward extinction, threats posed by fish hatcheries and fish farms, and our continued loss of faith in nature.
The practice of hatching, spawning and raising fish by humans in artificial habitats is removing natural selection from fishes’ life cycle and threatening the natural wild populations once introduced to the habitat with predation and competition for food.
Farmed fish also threaten the natural wild populations by passing on parasites and diseases and the use of pesticides to control them and through competition and interbreeding due to frequent escapes.
The film is accompanied by a website where you can get the facts and also learn what you can do to be part of the solution. There is also the chance to sign a petition to lobby for lasting change.
