Yelp to Offer Home Food Delivery

The online review site Yelp has acquired the food delivery service Eat24 for the healthy sum of $134 million.

The purchase shows the direction Yelp will head towards, creating a database of restaurants and reviews in which people can simple order delivery directly from the site.

Jeremy Stoppelman, Yelp’s CEO, said: “With this acquisition, we gain more tools and expertise to help engage our users from discovery through transaction in a key vertical for Yelp.”

The moves is in line with a growing trend for companies offering food delivery services. Amazon and Uber have both made moves into the delivery market while chef David Chang is also getting involved with the launch of Maple - an app that aims to bring high quality food delivery to the doors of New Yorkers within 15 minutes.

We wonder if this new move from Yelp will soften the attitude of chefs towards Yelp.
