If you’ve been following the various food trend predictions for 2017, you’ll know that fruit and vegetable 'butchery' is something we might start seeing more and more of in the coming year.

Whole Foods, however, has leapt on this already, and it’s only February, by installing a ‘produce butcher’ at one of its New York stores. The butcher will prepare your store-bought fruits and veggies anyway you like, for $1 a pound, if for whatever reason, you don’t want to or can’t do it yourself.

This could of course be great news for those with reduced mobility; or perhaps you want your produce prepared in a particular way for a special occasion, and don’t feel confident enough to do it yourself.

It will also – perhaps primarily – appeal to the lazy cook, at a time when actually we should be encouraging people to learn basic food prep and cooking skills, as we look to reduce food waste.

Whole Foods has been here before of course, having previously attracted ridicule for selling pre-peeled fruit.

So, if you are one of those lazy cooks we mentioned, take a look at these five videos teaching basic knife skills and get your knife skills on point, with no help required from a produce butcher!

What do you think of the produce butcher? Let us know over on our Facebook page.
