Twitter has assembled its own crack team of food influencers called the Twitter Food Council to create food–related content to feed social media users’ #foodporn addiction.
The 17 chefs and journalists on the Twitter Food Council will be producing original food–related content every day for Twitter, Vine and Periscope, as Twitter seek to regain some of the ground lost to Instagram (Twitter has around 320 million active users worldwide, while Instagram has 400 million, despite being launched four years later), especially amongst the young.
A Twitter spokesperson told Mashable that: “the company is not paying chefs to participate and is not selling ads around the content.” Members of the Twitter Food Council include chefs Alex Guarnaschelli and Anne Burrell and Adam Rapaport, editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit magazine. See the full list here. Anyone who wants to interact with the food council should tweet using the official hashtag, #FoodFlock.
Over the past 30 days, #foodporn has been tweeted roughly 300 times an hour. Other popular food hashtags on Twitter include #yummy, #foodgasm and #nomnom.
