A new restaurant pop-cup that only says food from tin cans has opened in London’s trendy Soho neighbourhood.
Called The Tincan Restaurant - the six month pop-up, will serve a range of artisan tinned fish products from all over the world with diners asked to choose their tins before they’re freshly opened and served alongside simple accompaniments such as bread, salad, olive oil, lemon, shallots and parsley.
It’s all part of London Design Festival with Maximiliano Arrocet, one of the people behind the project, telling The Guardian: “The perception of tinned food in the UK is different from how it is in other parts of the world.” He explained how tinned foods in his home country of Spain have a much stronger reputation with many places selling gourmet tinned products.
The restaurant, designed by the architect firm Al_A, aims “to sell the best tinned fish in the world” with The Guardian reporting they will offer products such as Portugese mackerel fillets in olive oil, Icelandic smoked cod livers and Galician urchin caviar.
The place certainly looks beautiful and it really does need to be if there’s any real chance of convincing people, whose main thought when you say tinned food is ‘Spam’, that canned cuisine can be great.
