Chef Thomas Keller was amongst the new inductees to the California Hall of Fame this year, the annual selection of individuals acknowledged for their distinguished achievements across fields such as science, sports, business, and the arts. He joins a list of 113 inspirational Californians already inducted since the introduction of the program in 2006.
The ceremony took place on the 4th of December at the California Museum, where the Hall of Fame remains a permanent exhibition.
Keller is the only American-born chef to hold multiple three-star ratings from Michelin. He was born in California and has lived and worked in the state since 1991.
Being inducted into the official Hall of Fame is recognition of the chef’s much-celebrated career. His previous awards include Best American Chef by the James Beard Foundation (1996), America’s Best Chef by Time magazine (2001), Chef of the Year by the Culinary Institue of America (2007).
Notably, Keller, along with Chef Daniel Boulud, guided team USA to their first ever victory at the 'olympics of the culinary world', the Bocuse d’Or competition in 2017, an achievement that took almost a decade of training under Keller and Boulud's guidance.
The chef was in good company at this year’s ceremony, with other inductees that included musician Joan Baez, mountaineer and scientist Arlene Blum, journalist Belva Davis, former San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, public servant Nancy McFadden, Hollywood icon and environmentalist Robert Redford and former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela.
