Gary Rhodes to Open Restaurant Inside a Cinema

Cinema food is never good, we all know it. Best is to opt for popcorn, ahead of what is normally an alternative of soggy hotdog. As bad as the image of cinema food has been, it could be about to change thanks to an exciting project in Dubai with Vox Cinemas and the British chef Gary Rhodes.

Working alongside the cinema inside the Mall of The Emirates, the chef has created a new experience called ThEATre by Rhodes - a luxury cinema experience that will allow people viewing movies to eat Rhode’s menu before, during and after their film.

Speaking to Arabian Business, the chef said he’s essentially created a clever finger food menu to cater for diners who are eating in the dark. There’s a burger with a tweaked bun to stop people getting greasy hands during their film, lamb tagine fritter balls, posh panini packed with foi gras, truffle butter and veal bacon with maple syrup dressing.

He tells the paper that he expects to serving between 300-500 covers a day in a style that will test the way in which a normal restaurant can operate - small kitchen, new setting for serving and a while new type of customer.

He says he wants to create a nice harmony with food and films but that if he can make people forget their movie for 10 seconds while they taste their dish, he will be happy.

Vox Cinemas says there are also plans to expand ThEATre to their other locations.
