You won't find bacon and sausage on the menu at Comfort hotels in Scandinavia. That's because hotel owner Petter Stordalen doesn't believe the breakfast meats are sustainable thus he's traded them for healthier vegetarian alternatives.

Stordalen owns the Nordic Choice hotel group which operates over 170 properties - including Comfort hotels, Quality hotels, Clarion hotels - in Scandinavia and the Baltics.

Comfort hotels have already begun serving meat-free breakfasts but not all guests are happy with the change, according to employee Ebba Kohl who runs the restaurant at a Swedish property. Kohl says they have been "mixed reactions."

"Some are upset and some understanding,” she told Swedish newspaper Västerbottens Kuriren, according to Fox News.

The push for a healthier breakfast also resulted in eliminating cheese and cereals from the menu, as well as all foods containing palm oil since Stordalen says they environmentally destructive.

Comfort Hotels spokesman Kenneth Hultgren further explained:

“We want to challenge and break down many of the traditional conventions around hotels. When guests check out of our hotel they will feel that we have helped them to make good and healthy choices, that our food has been tasty and healthy.”
