Is It All Over for Salt Bae?

The internet star Salt Bae is in serious hot water after a video of him serving the Venezuelan President inside his Istanbul restaurant went viral online, causing a huge backlash and protests outside one of his restaurants in Miami.

Salt Bae, real name Nusret Gokce, was catapulted to social stardom for his over the top salt sprinkling antics and flamboyant slicing inside his meat focused restaurants.

Here's the now deleted videos...

In the last year, on the back of this stardom, Gokce, or The Bae as some call him, has opened new restaurants around the world including a location in New York.

However, it seems his popularity is now turning to hatred as thousands of people flock to online review sites and social media to leave negative reviews and comments about an expensive steak meal he served to the Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.

Gokce deleted two tweets after backlash to videos and promotional material he shared about cooking for the president, they even prompted US Senator Marco Rubio to tweet.

“I don’t know who this weirdo #Saltbae is,” Rubio tweeted, “but the guy he is so proud to host is not the president of #Venezuela.” He followed up: “He is actually the overweight dictator of a nation where 30 percent of the people eat only once a day and “infants are suffering from malnutrition.”

The senator also tweeted the address of Gokce’s Miami restaurant address and there have been protests.

Is the time up for The Bae’s springing antics? Reviews online have been posted on almost all of his restaurant's pages. It's got so bad on Yelp that they've disabled reviews.
