Israel has selected the young chef who will represent the country in the upcoming 2014 S.Pellegrino Cooking Cup, an exciting culinary competition and regatta that takes place between the Lido of Venice and San Giorgio Island, in Italy.
Winner Ahmad Salameh was selected during the 4th annual S.Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year final held March 18th at Herods Tel Aviv hotel. Salameh is currently the sous chef at King David Hotel in Jerusalem and has trained in Ireland and Italy. He won the competition by preparing black garlic cannellini with duck.
Salameh faced off with talented contenders Nisim Ziv from Segev restaurant in Hertzliya, Nadav Netzer from Pastel restaurant in Tel Aviv and Mor Varshavsky from Messa restaurant in Tel Aviv.
The respectable panel of judges included top chefs from Israel and around the world: Shalom Kadosh (who also led the competition), Meir Adoni, Moshik Rot, Golan Israel and Avi Biton. Special guest the Italian chef Enerico Cerea from the three Michelin-starred restaurant Da Vittorio also participated in the judge's panel.
