The Queen is Hiring a Sous Chef: Here's How to Apply

The Queen of England is looking for a new sous chef with experienced applicants being encouraged to apply online.

The job description states: “You'll plan and develop menu items for a wide range of events, as well as helping to manage stock levels. Alongside the Head Chef you’ll lead and motivate the Kitchen team, playing an integral part in the day-to-day running of our operations…whether you’re based in Buckingham Palace or traveling to other locations, you'll look forward to whatever challenge comes your way.”

On top of duties like, we don’t know, cooking for the Queen and her family, the successful applicant will also have the chance to opt to accept live-in accommodation with all meals provided. There’s no mention of salary on the posting but they do say they offer a “Competitive package including a 15% employer contribution pension scheme.”

This is probably a very good gig to get but a job cooking for royalty comes with some requirements. The successful applicant must have been classically trained in French cuisine and they must have experience with volume catering, this doesn’t mean flipping burgers in the back of your mates van at Glastonbury festival.

This is a permanent, full time position with 33 days holiday, benefits and pension contributions, working with some of the best quality ingredients around and cooking for some of the world’s most prestigious guests. The posting says the employers encourage and support training and development of both technical cookery and management skills and though it’s based in London, the listing also suggests some travel will be necessary.

Applicants must apply online by October 19th.
