Quay, in Sydney, which recently reopened after a three-month, multi-million dollar renovation, has just been named Australia’s Best Restaurant at the Gourmet Traveller restaurant awards 2019.
Chef Peter Gilmore’s iconic restaurant overlooking Sydney Harbour has long been a favourite with Australian and international gastronomes, and has in fact it won the same award three times previously.
Having closed in March, Quay has returned with a revamped 10-course tasting menu, fewer covers, a more guest-centric experience, and controversially, minus its famous snow egg dessert. Take a look at some of the new dishes.
Gourmet Travellers’ editors, who consider the reviews of 60 different food critics across the country in their deliberation, say “Gilmore and his team, reveling in a new-build kitchen, are flexing their muscles anew. It's a new Quay, and there's no other restaurant quite like it.”
Other awards handed out at the ceremony in Sydney included to Brae for Regional Restaurant of the Year, and to Josh Niland of Saint Peter for Chef of the Year.
