How CNN will Create One Final Season of Anthony Bourdain's 'Parts Unknown'

The food world and beyond reverberated in June at the news of the death of television host, presenter, chef and author, Anthony Bourdain.

Bourdain was the voice of an entire generation of chefs in his tell all book, Kitchen Confidential. He was also the no holds barred presenter of some of the most popular and curious food shows ever aired on television. His Parts Unknown show, particularly, will leave a gaping gap in the gastro-landscape.

Bourdain, sadly, committed suicide in France while filming for the 12th season of his award winning Parts Unknown show. At the time, only one episode was finished: Kenya.

CNN have now released plans for the final season of the show and it will include a special tribute episode to Bourdain and how he affected the world.

The episode filmed in Kenya, alongside his fellow CNN presenter W. Kamau Bell, will be final one aired in a series of seven. Four other episodes: Manhattan, New York; Texas near the Mexican border; Spain and Indonesia will be produced in a different style to the usual edits. This is because the narration was never recorded, instead, CNN said they plan to use footage, audio from the field and audio from interviews takeen during filming to produce the episodes.

CNN's Amy Entelis told the LA Times: "Each one will feel slightly different depending on what’s gathered in the field. They will have the full presence of Tony because you’ll see him, you’ll hear him, you’ll watch him. That layer of his narration will be missing, but it will be replaced by other voices of people who are in the episodes.”

There will be two further episodes, one on Bourdain's affect on the world and the second on a behind-the-scenes look at how the show was made.

The final seven episodes of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown are set to air sometime in the Fall on CNN.
