Opentabe buys Foodspotting for $10 Million

The food sharing social media site Foodspotting has been bought for $10 million by the online restaurant reservation service Opentable.

The deal seems like an internet match made in heaven. Users of Opentable will now be able to see specific dishes of food at a restaurant they have booked a reservation with and the data from the Foodspotting community will show them what dishes people have recommended most.

In a move that makes Opentable more social, chief executive Matt Roberts said: “If you can have a rich menu with images instead of just words and recommendations of dishes you may like, it really just broadens the experience and helps diners get the most of their evening out.”

Opentable was already growing quickly with many people choosing to book restaurants using their mobile apps. This new edition of data will only work to strengthen the service for the future.
