The First Ever Online Culinary School Opens

The world's first online culinary school has launched. Organized by the Triumph Higher Education group and The Escoffier School of Culinary Arts the school will make vocational culinary studies available to millions of people online.

Costing around $5,000, students will be led through four comprehensive courses, receive a personal culinary mentor and a collection of professional kitchen tools. The organizers would also like to push the social element of learning through peer-to-peer communication.

Jack Larson is the founder of Escoffier and also the man behind bringing the Le Cordon Bleu culinary schools from France to the United States. He believes the courses will be a success, telling the Daily Meal: "We're using the internet to completely change the definition of a culinary education and who can get it."

There is a questionable angle in learning to cook from home, away from the sight, sounds and smells of the kitchen. But with costs much lower than other culinary courses and many people excelling at learning in the home environment, the Escoffier online culinary school could have a real impact on an industry that's bustling with young students eager to the learn the skills required to become professional chefs.
