$1 Million Raised for $65 Chef Knife

We’ve already featured the Misen knife on FDL but after their massive success in crowd funding we thought it probably needed another shout out.

The Misen knife is the idea of a small team of chefs, designers who have created a high quality chef knife for a low quality price. An product that people are obviously crying out for after the company managed to raise over $1 million on Kickstarter to make their design commercially available.

The knife costs just $65 but the makers say it packs the same kick as much higher priced alternatives on the market thanks to their use of high carbon stainless steel, a unique blade angle and something they call hybrid blade geometry.

Anyone who has worked in a kitchen knows just how important it is to have a top knife, they also know just how expensive it can be to own that knife. If Misen lives up to their claims, this could quickly become a leader, especially for those starting out in the kitchen.

The infographic below explains more about why the Misen could be a game changer. What do you think? Can a knife at just $65 really offer what the pros need in the kitchen?

I can see the need for such knife, it is all what a good multipurporse chef knife should be about. AUS8 stainless steel is a great choice for someone who doesn't want to spend hours on maintenance and at the same time doesn't want to compromise edge retention. What I don't like in this knife is the handle - but the again, for 65$ you should not expect more. Blade plays the main part here. I've once wrote an guide to choosing the best knife for one's needs, maybe it's going to be useful for any of you: - let me know your feedback! :)
