Michelin Starred Restaurants San Francisco: See The Full List

The Michelin Guide for San Francisco has been released with the big news being that the area now boasts two new three-star restaurants: Atelier Crenn, run by chef Dominique Crenn and SingleThread by Kyle and Katina Connaughton.

There were no new entries in the two-star category. There were a total of five new restaurants in the one-star category: Bar Crenn, Birdsong, Madcap, Nico, and Protegé.

The Bay Area takes the U.S crown of the most three starred restaurants in the country with a total of eight vs New York’s five.

The real news of this year’s guide is that Dominique Crenn becomes the first ever female chef in the States to receive the coveted title of three-stars. Her new Bar Crenn restaurant was also added to the one-star category.

Overall, Michelin lauded the dining scene in San Francisco, they said inspectors were impressed with the high quality food they found and gave special nod to the two new three-star restaurants: “The teams at Atelier Crenn and SingleThread should be extremely proud, as our inspectors were very impressed by the quality of the produce used in the preparation of the dishes. This, along with their meticulous attention to detail, creativity and dedication to delighting their customers means they always offer diners a memorable and very pleasurable gastronomic experience. Without a doubt, they are definitely worth a special journey!”

Worth a special journey refers to the main criteria of Michelin’s rating system:

One star: A good place to stop on your journey, indicating a very good restaurant in its category, offering cuisine prepared to a consistently high standard.

Two stars: A restaurant worth a detour, indicating excellent cuisine and skillfully and carefully crafted dishes of outstanding quality.

Three stars: A restaurant worth a special journey, indicating exceptional cuisine where diners eat extremely well, often superbly. Distinctive dishes are precisely executed, using superlative ingredients.
