Massimo Bottura Launches a Very Special Whisky

Chef Massimo Bottura has teamed up with The Dalmore to create L’Anima aged 49-year single malt scotch whisky.

The whisky, created in collaboration between Bottura and The Dalmore’s Master Distiller, Richard Paterson, is called L’Anima and means ‘soul’ in Italian. It will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s and all proceeds will go to Bottura’s non-profit organisation Food For Soul.

After announcing his intention to open a 12-room inn in Italy together with his wife Lara, Bottura continues to flout convention with this venture into the world of whisky.

The Dalmore's l’Anima whisky has orange chocolate notes, which the Scottish distillery is well known for, but the special edition 49-year aged single malt also has flavour inspired by Bottura’s Osteria Francescana, voted best restaurant in the world at last year’s World's 50 Best Restaurants.

Food For Soul is Bottura’s non-profit that works to empower communities by decreasing food waste and increasing awareness of food sustainability.

“When Master Distiller Richard Paterson and I met in Modena, it was a true meeting of the minds,” Bottura said. “Our creative processes seamlessly fused together with our passion and deep understanding of flavour complexity and connection to create a very special bottle that brings together some of the most precious scotch whisky barrels in the world.”

“Bottura’s approach to deconstructing and reinventing daring food pairings is very similar to the way I approach whisky making,” Paterson added. “The coming together of our passions allowed me to create a whisky that is bold, different, full of warmth, and completely unforgettable. It is a true reflection of the love and blood that unites us.”
