After two successful years of bringing together some of the world's leading thinkers and chefs to discuss all manner of food topics, MAD, the symposium and food festival started by the Danish chef Rene Redzepi, is calling on people for their support.
In a letter to fans of MAD Rene Redzepi laid out his vision for the future of symposium and asked people to donate to help keep the event independent from large sponsorship.
Redzepi calls on chefs as culinary leaders, saying: "Chefs today have a new opportunity – and perhaps even an obligation – to inform the public about what is good to eat, and why. This means that we ourselves also need to learn much more about issues that are critical to our world: culinary history, native flora, the relationship between food and food supply systems, sustainability and the social significance of how we eat."
This is the idea behind the event, a symposium that's seen more open, frank and informative food discussions taking place than at any other food event - a culinary haven frequented by some of the world's best chefs.
The third installment, guest-curated by chef David Chang, will take place on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 August 2013 with a theme of Guts. Redzepi hopes to continue to have an impact on our food system and says he needs "people who want to be involved because they believe that changing how we think about food is crucial to the health of this planet."
