Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2018, check out the full list

The Maido restaurant in Lima, Peru, is once again number one on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. Taking the spot chef and owner, Mitsuharu Tsumura, said “I have no words, thank you so much to my restaurant team and to all the people that support us…It has been a rough year for the whole continent but the culinary world is growing and keeping us together. I want to thank you all.”

Second place on the list went to Central also in Lima, operated by husband and wife duo Virgilio Martinez and Pía León, and the third best restaurant in Latin America was crowned as Pujol in Mexico City.

Latin America’s Best Pastry chef went to Jesús Escalera from La Postrería in Guadalajara (Mexico), the Chef’s Choice award, the only award selected by the chefs in the audience, was presented to Carlos García from Venezuela who opened his first restaurant in Miami this year. The Highest Climber award was given to Mishiguene in Argentina.

Three awards were already announced ahead of the ceremony: Pía León has been crowned as the winner of Latin America's Best Female Chef Award, the mother and son duo María Elena Lugo Zermeño and Gerardo Vázquez Lugo from Nico's in Mexico City have been named as the joint winners of The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award, while Manu, the restaurant run by chef-owner Manoella Buffara in Curitiba, Brazil, has been named as the Miele One to Watch.
