An oyster discovered in the Wadden Sea in Denmark has officially been registered as the world’s largest oyster by The Guinness Book of World Records.
Back in October 2013 we broke  the news of the giant oyster discovery which was uncovered by a team of biologists working at the Wadden Sea Centre.
Clocking in at 35.5 cm (13.97 inches) and weighing 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) there was never any doubt that this was a massive mollusc but now, after waiting over six weeks for an answer, the team have officially been recognised for their find.
The oyster smashed the original record size of 33 cm (13 inches) which was discovered in California.
Pacific oysters grow around 3-7 cm a year, slowing as they get older. The team who discovered the oyster guess it could be as much as 20-years-old but this can not be verified until it dies and is cut open.
