Jungsik, the two Michelin star ‘New Korean’ restaurant in Tribeca, Manhattan and its chef-owner Jungsik Yim are being sued by a former employee for unpaid wages and tips, Eater reports.
David Bobb, who worked at the restaurant for five months between 2014 and 2015 has filed a class action lawsuit claiming management withheld staff tips and also refused to hand over service charges levied during private events. The former back waiter claims management and kitchen staff illegally claimed a share of tips in the restaurant and is “suing for unpaid minimum wage and legal fees,” according to Eater.
Jungsik, New York – the original restaurant is in Seoul – opened in 2011, gaining its first star in 2013 and its second a year later. It currently offers $200 tasting and £125 set menus, with fusion fare such as langoustine with seasonal herb puree and dashi-braised octopus.
Both Thomas Keller and Mario Batali have settled similar lawsuits previously, while Michel Roux Jr was recently forced to admit staff do not see any of the service charge at his two Michelin star Le Gavroche in London.
