If you're looking for an authority on dining out than the LA Times' Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic Jonathan Gold is as good as any.

Fresh from naming Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson's LoCol 'LA Restaurant of the Year,' he's dropped his five culinarly commandments in an Instagram post.

They're his five golden rules for dining out in LA, but in fact, you could apply them to anywhere with a thriving food scene. 

His five culinary commandments are: 

1. If the restaurant you have been directed to lies between the Seven-Eleven and the Dry Cleaners in a dusty strip mall, then you're probably at the right place.

2. The restaurants with the longest lines are either better than their competitors or fifty cents cheaper. Try and know the difference.

3. There is no shame in avocado toast.

4. The best choice is always the restaurant fifteen minutes further than you are willing to go.

5. The taco honors the truck.
