It's a 4th of July tradition that many look forward to: the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island. This time around, it took 69 hot dogs to set a new world record.

The winner of the 97th annual hot dog eating contest was reigning champ Joey Chestnut from San Jose, CA. Chesnut ate 18 hot dogs more than second runner up Matt Stonie. He walked away with $10,000 and a bejeweld mustard-yellow champion's belt, ABC News reports.

In the women's category, reigning champ Sonya Thomas won for the third consecutive time by scarfing down 36 and three-quarters hot dogs and buns. Thomas, aka The Black Widow from Alexandria, VA, beat out front runner Juliet Lee in the last two minutes of the competition.
