Gastón Acurio is expanding his ceviche empire to Barcelona. The Peruvian chef, who just wrapped up a trip to Tokyo for the G9 summit, is in Spain to visit his newly opened Tanta Barcelona, Bistro Peruano.
Tanta is an outpost of the T'anta chain Gastón began in Lima years ago as an affordable option for enjoying great Peruvian food. For the Barcelona venture Gastón paired up with chef Santiago Forero, a master of ceviche, Peru's famed cured fish with lime (which has often been compared to sushi).
The restaurant has an open kitchen and three spaces for dining: a modern bar, cozy tables for intimate dining and a larger area for family-style dinners. The sleek decor is complimented with a huge vertical garden. Gastón hopes to incorporate local fish caught using sustainable practices into the menu, according to Spanish publication Gourmets.
The restaurant serves Peruvian staples like the ají de gallina (chicken in a creamy yellow chili sauce) and anticuchos (marined and grilled beef hearts) and dishes with plenty of lime juice and chilies. Catch a glimpse of the colorful cuisine at Tanta below. For reservations, please visit the restaurant website.
