The world's largest fried rice wasn't cooked in Asia, but in the Central American country of Costa Rica where locals have an appetite for this Chinese specialty.
It took more than six hours, 52 chefs and 20 assistants from 25 local Chinese restaurants to break the Guinness World Record for the largest fried rice, which weighed in at 1.3 tons. The feat was performed yesterday in honor of the Chinese New Year.
The dish was prepared in San José's Chinatown and required 1,620 lbs. of rice, 573 lbs. of chicken and 507 lbs. of pork, among other ingredients.
The previous world record for largest fried rice was 1,102 pounds, according to Guinness spokesperson Ralph Hannah.
