The chef, who runs the Atelier Crenn and Petit Crenn restaurants in San Francisco, said the award is a “great honour.”
Crenn grew up in France and credits her parents for sparking her early curiosity in food. After studying in Paris she moved to San Francisco and worked under tutelage of Jeremiah Tower and Mark Franz. After running her own kitchens in Indonesia and San Francisco she finally opened her own restaurant, Atelier Crenn, in 2011.
Atelier Crenn quickly became one of the top restaurants in San Francisco, receiving its first Michelin star just a year after opening and a second star a year later. Crenn was the first female chef in the United States to receive the accolade of two Michelin stars. On top of her restaurant work, Crenn has contributed to a number of organisations and panels throughout her career, this year she was announced as one of the local jury for S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016.

Crenn will receive her award at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony in New York, June 13th.
