Depending on whom you ask, adults included, Walt Disney World and Disneyland in Florida and California respectively are either the ultimate fantasy getaways or tourist-clogged, superficial hellscapes. One thing they’re certainly not known for is a platitude of quality dining options.
But, this week it’s been announced that both Wolfgang Puck and José Andrés will be opening outposts of their restaurant empires at Walt Disney World. As the Malay Mail Online reports, Puck’s Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill and another of Andrés’s flagship Jaleo restaurants are slated to open at Disney Springs, the Florida park’s outdoor retail and entertainment complex in 2018.
This follows the launch of a $15,000 dining experience at Disneyland, California, which is also home to an exclusive secret dining club. Disney is of course no stranger to the goings on in high gastronomy, having previously collaborated with Ferran Adrià on a children’s cookbook.
So, will we see a Michelin star at a Disney park in the future, or the great and good of French gastronomy clamouring for a piece of Disneyland Paris? It’ll be interesting to see whether Disney can become an irony-free dining destination in its own right.
