First came a maple syrup heist, then a cookie thief followed by a nutty almond theft is spreading across the globe at an alarming rate.

The latest in the wave of foodie theft? Thieves in Germany have stolen five tons of Nutella - the addictive chocolate-hazelnut spread made by Ferrero. The sticky loot is valued at $20,710, according to reports from the Associated Press.

The chocolate bandits made off with the Nutella that was inside a parked trailer in Bad Hersfeld, a town about 76 miles from Frankfurt.

This gooey crime is just the latest in a string of thefts in the area. According to Agence France-Presse, thieves in the region stole five tons of coffee worth 30,000 euros last month and 34,000 cans of energy drinks last August.

There's no word yet on how many chocoholics were involved in this theft...
