For decades, chef Rick Bayless has been cooking and promoting Mexican food - whether it was in his restaurants, television shows or cook books. His efforts have been recognized by the Mexican government, who awarded the chef the highest distinction the country gives to a foreigner: the Order of the Aztec Eagle.

According to the announcement, which was released in Spanish, the Mexican government recognizes Chef Bayless for ''promoting the variety and sophistication of Mexican haute cuisine and changing the image of the country...[thus] strengthening the image of Mexico as having one of the richest culinary cultures of the world.''

The Chicago chef is the owner of two acclaimed Mexican restaurants: Frontera Grill and Topolobampo. He is the recipient of several James Beard Awards and won the first season of Top Chef Masters. Way to go chef!
