Fed up with 70-hour weeks on the line, working bank holidays and with no weekends off? Buckingham Palace have advertised for a Sous Chef and it looks like the job you’ve been waiting for.

If you are an experienced and qualified chef with a "background in premier catering, looking to take on a new challenge”, then this could be the job for you.

Cooking for the Queen and her guests looks just like the challenging but rewarding environment for an experienced yet hungry chef to develop his career, away from the white heat of the restaurant trade. The ad, posted on the Buckingham Palace website is looking for a Sous Chef who, alongside the Head Chef will motivate the Kitchen team and play an integral part in the day-to-day running of operations.

“You'll have a thorough knowledge of the food industry and are trained in classical French cuisine, and you'll be confident planning and developing menus for a wide range of occasions, including volume catering,” says the ad on the website.

“Strong leadership skills will be absolutely vital. It's essential that you can plan, organise and delegate effectively, and also that you can motivate and develop those around you.”

You’ll have to brush up on the Queen's favourites as she likes to eat the same things. According to former chef for the royal kitchens, Darren McGrady, "the Queen is not a foodie", he said, unlike husband Prince Phillip, who "loves to eat and would stand and talk food all day."

The Queen’s evening meals usually consist of game or fish, such as pheasant or venison from Sandringham or salmon from Balmoral, so get your game game on.

Applications close 31st of January.
