Mc Garry’s 15-month old New York restaurant will close its doors temporarily to allow chef Flynn to travel and take his show on the road.
Opening his first pop-up restaurant at the age of 13, Mc Garry is going back to his roots with a two-week London pop-up scheduled for the end of July.
The precocious talent, now 20 years old, so no longer a teenager, has earned the respect of the industry and critics alike with his Gem restaurant and proved he’s more than a flash in the pan. Running a successful New York restaurant can be a daily grind and the young chef has decided to close temporarily from June 29 and run through September 4, and he “will be spending the summer traveling to gain new inspirations and cooking dinners here and abroad”.
Mc Garry has always stressed his desire to be judged, not by his age profile, but by the quality of his cooking and so far, he’s proved his mettle in the kitchen. Impressing New York Times critic Pete Wells, who awarded Gem two stars.
If you want to eat at Gem and sample Flynn Mc Garry’s 12-15 course tasting menu this summer, you’d better get your skates on.
