The Opinionated About Dining blog has released its annual list of the Top 100+ Restaurants in Europe, and Restaurant Frantzén in Sweden takes the number one spot.

The recently re-opened restaurant in downtown Stockholm is helmed by chef Bjorn Frantzén and was the first Swedish restaurant to earn three Michelin stars. Take a look at the dishes here.

Chef Andreas Caminada's Schloss Schauenstein, the three-Michelin-star restaurant in the Swiss Alps, drops back to number two while Asador Etxebarri, Spain remains in third place, as per last year.

L’Arpège from France and Restaurant Quique Dacosta from Spain retain their stronghold having now remained in the top ten for five consecutive years.

Newcomers are plentiful this year with Restaurant Barr and Noma 2.0 from Denmark, Lido 84  and Le Calandre from Italy and Daniel Berlin from Sweden all joining the top ten.

The list was announced at the end of a week of special dinners and events held in San Sebastian in the Basque Country with chefs like London based chefs Jeremy Chan and Nuno Mundes cooking.

The blog, was started in 2004 by former music industry executive Steve Plotnicki. The list, which has appeared annually since 2012. The 2019 results are based on over 200,000 reviews contributed by more than 6,000 people who registered for the survey.

Prior to this, a list of the Top 100+ Classical Restaurants in Europe had already been released.
