A 16th Century pub in the Southwest of England has been been picked as the best in the UK and Ireland by the Michelin Guide.
The Butchers Arms, close to Gloucester, was given Michelin’s Pub of The Year 2016 accolade, beating 600 hundred others to the prize.
The announcement comes ahead of the publication of Michelin’s Eating Out in Pubs 2016 guide which will be released October 30th.
The Butchers Arms is known for serving a menu that not only changes daily but one that actually evolves throughout the day as fresh produce arrives.
The pub, which has retained one Michelin star since 2011, is manned by just one chef James Winter who runs it alongside his wife Elizabeth.
It’s a good honest pub with proper locals, one of which happens to be a rather content looking dog sporting a flatcap. And it just so happens to be kicking out Michelin quality grub centred on homely British style cooking and a revolving door of fresh produce.
Previous winners of Michelin's best pub award have included The White Rabbit in Oxfordshire, Heston Blumenthal’s Hinds Head pub in Bray and The Pipe and Glass in Hull.
