To film the latest episode of his Bizarre Foods show, Andrew Zimmern traveled to Peru where he paid a visit to the country's premiere chef Gastón Acurio who gave him a tour of Lima and his new restaurant Astrid & Gastón Casa Moreyra.

Acurio's new restaurant is still under construction but that didn't stop Zimmern from taking a few selfies while donning a hard hat. The two had plenty to talk about when it came to discussing Peru's rising culinary scene.

"I'm eating everything," Zimmern told local publication El Comercio. "I can honestly say that, internationally, Peruvian cuisine is like a rocket taking off. It's in full swing and about to reach its best moment.''

Zimmern's week-long trip to Peru has included a visit to Lima and the Amazon. So far, he's enjoyed his fair share of local specialties like ceviche, 'Devil' fish and salted cheese stuffed into bread empanadas cooked in a wood burning oven. He also accompanied Acurio to a farmer's market where he sampled a dozen fruits he'd never tasted before.

The television host has documented it all on Twitter and Instagram, giving hungry fans plenty to feast their eyes on while they wait for the episode to air.

Check out some of the amazing food Zimmern enjoyed at Acurio's flagship restaurant (which will soon close and relocate across town):

Sous Vide Goat with Onion Jam and Watercress

Steak and Bone Marrow Tartar

Peking Cuy on Blue Corn Crepe, Pickled Vegetables and Mandarin-Tamarind Sauce
