No, You're Not Allergic to MSG

Nothing is more misunderstood in the food industry than MSG - Monosodium glutamate.

Many people claim to be allergic to it and lots of people will complain when about ‘Chinese food syndrome’ - saying that added MSG in food causes them to be ill.

David Chang spoke about the problem at the MAD Symposium and now it’s the turn of the food scientist Harold McGee.

In the video below, created by Mind of a Chef, McGee sets out to look more closely at MSG and why it’s one of the most misunderstood elements of the food world.

Take a look, you might just learn a thing or two about what exactly MSG is and why it’s actually found in many of our foods.

As McGee explains it’s in tomato, parmesan cheese and beef. Even more, as Chang explains in the second video, it’s found everywhere.

Watch the videos and make sure you don’t miss the other video McGee made for Mind of a Chef where he looked more closely at salt and how it can actually make food smell stronger.
